Restoration - The progress so far

An extensive restoration programme is well under way.  Six major projects have been funded so far through the generosity of supporters and charitable trusts in the United Kingdom and all over the world.  We have received wonderful support from the World Monuments Fund in Britain, the Robert Wilson Trust in New York and the Heritage Lottery Fund through English Heritage.  The restoration of the Scriptorium and Choir School is now well advanced and has been fully funded.  It will be completed by March 2008.

Recently Completed Works

Stonework restoration of the eastern bays of the south choir aisle - £400,000.  Includes re-glazing of the 14th Century Washington Window - cost met in full by the British American Tobacco Company.

Restoration and reglazing of the Great East Window; restoration of the East End.

Current Project

The Scriptorium project costing £795,000 is our largest to date and will take 12 months to complete (March 2008).  Our final project which we are actively fundraising for now will restore the remaining Bays of the South Choir Aisle up to the South Transept.  The cost is £495,000 and, by December 07, we have raised £305,000 towards this last target.  We urgently need your help to raise the remaining £190,000 so that we can begin work in April 2008 and finish it before the end of the year.

Future Projects

High level stonework restoration to the transepts and nave.

Restoration of the north porch.

Restoration of the Hill organ.

Help preserve one of England's foremost historic churches for future generations to enjoy. Please make a donation towards our next project and send it to:
