Come and share your stories of Selby high street in our 1:1 Oral History sessions. These sessions will take place at Selby Abbey with one of our specially trained oral history volunteers. You can book your spot here.
This project is running as part of the High Street Heritage Action Zone funded by Historic England and Selby District Council. The stories gathered will inform a programme of events going forward for the next 3 years. After this period, they will be stored at North Yorkshire County Council Record Office in Northallerton to preserve the histories of the people of Selby.
We are looking to explore themes including but not limited to:
• Memorable people/faces
• Experiences and events in the town centre
• Leisure activities
• Community spirit, groups and activities
• Places to eat/drink
• Streetscape changes
• Market days
Sessions are allocated on a 1.5hour basis but the length of the session is dictated largely by you and the stories you want to share.
You’re more than welcome to bring along pictures and objects to share also. Please note, once you sign up for a session, you will be sent some paperwork to fully brief you on the project and involvement.
