Postlude in G minor Stanford

This is a special Evensong arranged and conducted by our Tenor Chorale Scholar – James Dhonau

The Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis are by Thomas Pitt, who was organist at Worcester Cathedral from 1793 – 1806.

As part of his dissertation for his music degree at the University of York, James reconstructed the pieces from the original source material, which was located at the Worcester Cathedral Library, editing them, and producing a modern score.

As James was born in Worcester, he’s been delighted to show off the work of a lesser-known composer from the city, as well as that of a very well-known one.

This performance at Selby Abbey is most likely the first time these pieces have been performed since their composition, around the start of the 19th century, an exciting opportunity for all involved!
