Samuel also has a residency at St Augustine’s Church\, Broxbourne\, co-directing their Respite services and founding their organ scholarship scheme. \nAs an arranger\, Samuel has written for international soloist Jess Gillam\, conductor John Harle\, the Guildhall Saxophone Ensemble\, Trinity Laban Saxophone Choir\, Phoenix Saxophone Orchestra\, Benslow Saxophone Course\, the Bauhaus Band\, and the Leicestershire Schools Music. SUMMARY:Early show
DESCRIPTION:An Orchestral Tribute To John Williams vs Hans Zimmer\nPresented by The Great British Film Orchestra \nExperience a breathtaking celebration of John Williams\, Hans Zimmer and the greatest film scores ever written\, brought to life by a chamber orchestra. \nStep into a world where cinematic music history is brought to life. This year\, The Great British Film Orchestra proudly embarks on a spectacular UK-wide tour\, presenting The Music of John Williams vs Hans Zimmer – an orchestral duel between two titans whose scores have defined generations of storytelling. \nFor over half a century\, John Williams has shaped the sound of wonder itself. His unforgettable themes for Star Wars\, Indiana Jones\, Superman\, Jurassic Park and more have become modern mythology – fanfares that summon heroes\, awaken galaxies and stir the imagination of millions. His music is symphonic grandeur at its purest\, rooted in classical tradition yet alive with adventure\, heart and timeless magic. \nOpposing him stands Hans Zimmer\, the architect of bold\, thunderous\, revolutionary sound. With groundbreaking scores for The Dark Knight\, Gladiator\, The Lion King and beyond\, Zimmer reinvented the very language of film music. His fusion of orchestra\, electronics\, and relentless rhythm forged a new cinematic era – powerful\, primal\, unmistakably modern. \nBringing these monumental worlds to the stage is The Great British Film Orchestra\, one of the UK’s premier symphonic ensembles devoted to the art of film music. Renowned for their rich\, commanding sound and vivid performances\, this chamber orchestra transforms every concert into a widescreen experience – transporting audiences from ancient coliseums and distant galaxies to enchanted kingdoms and shadowed cityscapes. \nThis extraordinary touring production is more than a concert – it is a celebration of two musical legends whose work has shaped the emotional core of cinema itself. Expect soaring strings\, heroic brass\, electrifying percussion and moments of pure\, breathtaking spectacle as Williams’ iconic themes meet Zimmer’s thunderous power in a night of symphonic glory. \nJohn Williams. Hans Zimmer. One orchestra. Infinite adventure. \nDisclaimer  \nThis orchestral performance includes bright flashing and Portman lighting effects\, rapid light changes and loud passages\, which may be unsuitable for those with photosensitive epilepsy or sensory sensitivities. Viewer discretion is advised\, and ear protection is recommended for anyone sensitive to loud sounds. Please speak to a member of staff before the performance if you have any concerns.  \nMusical and film titles are used for programme-description purposes only. SUMMARY:Beethoven Symphony No.9 “Choral”
DESCRIPTION:York Beethoven Project  –   the Grand Finalé \n \nThe York Beethoven project was conceived in a conversation under the stage at Harrogate Theatre in 2022 and set up in 2023 with the aim of playing all of the 9 Symphonies in local venues with Local musicians.\n\nSince then they have played 8 (No6 in Selby Abbey) with only the Epic No9 Choral Symphony now needed to \ncomplete the cycle and mark the Bi-Centenary of Beethoven’s death in Vienne\, 1827.\n\n\nFounder & Conductor John Atkin said; \n  \n\n“The whole project has been a great experience and we can not believe that it’s nearly over.  The 1st Come & Play day attracted 53 musicians and we have now averaged 64 for each piece with well over 100 players taking part across the whole cycle. \nFor No9 though we need a Choir\, as Beethoven expanded the Symphonic form across 24 years we have to expand our numbers in the next 6 months!  Having said that we already have 74 singers registered to join us.   \n\nWe have approached a number of choirs and organisations that I have worked with over the years and the response has been excellent so far.   \nYork Opera\, Cantores\, York Musical Society\, South Bank Singers and others have all supported our call with a good number from each group signed up to sing with us in Selby Abbey on 13th March where we will also be singing Zadok the Priest and the Orchestra will perform the World premier of “Augury” which we have commissioned from local Composer Cameron McArthur.  \n \nFollowing this Concert\, the Orchestra will be rebranded as York Occasional Orchestra meeting twice a year for come and play days open to all exploring other Symphonic Repertoire starting in September 2027 with a well loved work to be announced next year.   \n \nDo join us and over 130 performers for this rarely performed ground breaking piece of music.\n\nTickets are now available to purchase via the Selby Abbey coffee shop or by clicking the link below;\nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/2001894102149?aff=oddtdtcreator\n\nThere will be a licensed bar at this event and payment can be made by cash or card\n\nDoors – 6.45pm
