Welcome to Loughborough Male Voice Choir
There has been a male voice choir in Loughborough for at least one hundred
years as evidenced by the Carillon Bell at The Memorial Tower in Queen’s Park.
However, at some point the Loughborough Male Voice Choir ceased performing
and it wasn’t until 1967 that the Choir was reformed under the direction of George
Towers. Since that time, it has grown to over 40 active singing members and is
now frequently requested to perform at functions within the Borough of
Charnwood.
It has a long and successful history of singing and performing throughout this time,
performing concerts across the county of Leicestershire and beyond.
The Choir has a large repertoire ranging from hymns, sacred music, songs from
the shows, through to more modern pieces. New songs are introduced annually
and added to the repertoire.
The Choir has sung in Music Festivals, its most recent entry being in the 2012
Leicester Festival of Music and Performing Arts, when they won the W.H. Russell
Shield. On three occasions the Choir has appeared at the Royal Albert Hall as
part of a 1,000 English Male Voice Choir. In the past, the Choir has performed in
Germany and Belgium and has undertaken short tours in Wales, Yorkshire and
Bath. The Choir’s most recent trip was a four-concert tour to Loughborough’s twin
town, Gembloux, in Belgium.
