Oliver Waterer is Organist and Director of Music at Selby Abbey where since 2021 he has been custodian of the Abbey’s choral tradition and renowned “Hill” organ. He combines this role with being a freelance organist and conductor. He has performed at many cathedrals and churches both in the UK and Europe, and has broadcast on BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Songs of Praise.
Before moving to Yorkshire, Oliver was Organist and Master of the Choristers at St Davids Cathedral and Artistic Director of St Davids Cathedral Festival (2013-21) in Wales, Assistant Director of Music at Chelmsford Cathedral (2009-2013), Sub Organist of Her Majesty’s Chapels Royal, St James’s Palace, and held Assistant Organist posts at Hampstead Parish Church, and Peterborough Cathedral. Prior to this he was Organ Scholar at Guildford and Birmingham Cathedrals. He studied at Birmingham Conservatoire graduating in 2001 winning the John Campbell Prize.
